The journey so far

About

For more than two decades I have been fully immersed in the dynamic world of IT — design, implementation and administration across a multitude of projects. My expertise is not surface-level: it goes deep into the core of each system, and that depth is what lets me take on whatever challenge arises.

Linux is where I shine brightest

Within the vast cosmos of IT, my home ground is Linux. I have ventured deep into the operating system's intricacies — beyond the surface, into its innermost workings — and that knowledge lets me resolve issues and navigate complex environments with real efficiency.

Alongside it I have spent years deftly maneuvering through Solaris, AIX and the ever-omnipresent Microsoft systems.

Databases as trusted allies

I wield Redis, Oracle, Informix, PostgreSQL and MySQL with confidence — orchestrating seamless integrations, keeping data flowing in harmony, and extracting the insights that fuel informed decision-making.

Code as a creative craft

Programming is where I unleash my creative spirit: the artistry of C, the versatility of Java, and the elegance of PL/SQL. With the Spring Boot framework I build microservices that work in concert — streamlined, modern, and built to unlock what applications can really do.

Integration & the human bridge

I have embraced the industry's shift from XML to JSON — a transformation that revolutionised system integration — and mastered both paradigms in practice.

Just as importantly, I bridge the gaps between systems and people: unravelling complex requirements into a common language stakeholders understand, aligning technology with the needs of the business, and adapting to the perpetual winds of change.

Interests

Faith first — and motorcycles

At the forefront of my life is my faith and my relationship with Jesus Christ — it is the lens through which I view and take part in the world. I serve as the Northern Cape regional president of the Christian Motorcyclists Association (CMA), where combining my love for motorcycles with my commitment to my faith is a true blessing. Together with fellow riders who share these values, we engage in meaningful activities that reflect our dedication to Christ and make a positive impact on others' lives.

Family at the centre

My most profound moments are the ones shared with my incredible wife and children. Family is the cornerstone of my life — meaningful activities, heartfelt conversations, and simply enjoying the love and support we have for one another.

Farm life & the outdoors

Living on a picturesque farm immerses me in the beauty of the outdoors. Caring for the land connects me to the rhythms of the earth, and camping adventures with my family create lasting memories amidst the wonders of creation.

Animals

Animals hold a special place in my heart — whether playing with our beloved pets or caring for the animals on our farm, their companionship is a daily reminder of the beauty of God's creation.

Electronics tinkering

Tinkering with electronics is one of my greatest joys: exploring the inner workings of devices, experimenting with circuits, and pushing the boundaries of what a soldering iron and curiosity can do.

Personal IT projects

In the pockets of time I carve out, I build mobile apps, create websites and explore emerging technologies in a sandbox environment — projects that ignite my passion and let me contribute through the gifts I've been given.
